Dogri poetry recitation contest held at Nagari-Parole

Jammu, Nov 14: A Dogri poetry recitation contest was held at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Nagri-Parole, Kathua.
The programme was organized by the school in collaboration with Dogri Sanstha, Jammu. In addition to the students and staff of the school, a large number of prominent citizens of Kathua and adjoining area were present.
The students recited the poems of renowned Dogri writers, Surinder Singh Manhas, Randhir Raipuria, Champa Sharma, Ashwini Magotra, Mohan Singh, Gian Singh and Surjeet Singh.
Some students also recited their own poems. Ajit of Class 9th, Sarvan of Class 12th, Priya of Class 12th and Ajay of Class 12th were adjudged 1st, 2nd, 3rd and fourth respectively by a panel of judges, comprising Pradyuman Singh Jandrahia, Shiv Mehta and Madan Padha.
Professor Lalit Magotra, president of Dogri Sanstha was the chief guest and I.S. Jhelmeria, the principal of the school, presided over the function.
The programme was ably and competently conducted by famous Dogri poet, Vijaya Thakur, who is also a lecturer in the same school.
Magotra, delivering his address said that this programme is a part of efforts of Dogri Sanstha to popularize Dogri literature and language among the young people and the rural masses.
He encouraged the young students to speak in their mother-tongue and read Dogri literature.
He presented a set of about 100 books of Dogri to the School library and also distributed sets of books, certificates and cash awards among the participating students.
Earlier, I.S. Jhelmeria, principal of the school, welcomed the writers of Dogri Sanstha visiting the school and he stressed on the importance of mother-tongue in the process of learning in the
educational system. Noting the enthusiasm of the students and popularity of the Dogri poems, he promised to hold more such programmes in future. He also presented mementoes to the visiting writers.
The writers from Dogri Sanstha along with the staff of the school and prominent citizens planted saplings of Gul-Mohar trees in the compound of the school.
