JKP XI lifts DPL T20 Cricket Cup | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU Nov 14: Defeating the formidable side of Simula XI in a an exciting contest via super over in the final, the JKP XI team clinched the Diwali Premier League T20 Cricket Cup at MA Stadium here today. Manzoor Illahi of JKP was the star performer in the super over, shining with both bat and ball. Dilbag Singh, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Kiran Wattal, Secretary J&K State Sports Council and AK Chaudhary, IGP Armed were the guests of honour. All the three dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion. Earlier, JKP skipper Rajesh Gill won the toss and decided to bat first and helped his team to score a fighting total of 125 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. He scored 46 runs off 48 balls including three boundaries. Farooq (27) and Manzoor Illahi (14) were the other notable contributors. For Simula XI, Off-Spinner Sameer Khajuria was the pick of the bowlers, taking two important wickets, while Hilal Rather, Dhruv Mahajan and Mohit Puri claimed one wicket apiece. Simula XI in reply also scored 125 runs in 20 overs, to carry the match to super over. Irshad top scored with 23 runs, while Dhruv Mahajan and Sahil Bhalwal contributed 17 runs each. Simula needed 6 runs to win in the last over of the allotted 20 overs, but could manage only 5 runs, courtesy superb bowling by Manzoor Illahi, to leave the result of the match to super over. For JKP XI, Deepak Pathania took 2 wickets while, Naresh, Manzoor, Rajesh and Shamsher took one wicket apiece. Batting first in the super over, Simula XI batsmen failed to tackle the nagging line and teasing length of Manzoor Illahi, who took the wickets of Dhruv Mahajan and Hilal Rather to restrict the side for meagre five runs, which JKP XI chased easily by riding on a splendid boundary hit by Manzoor Illahi on third ball of Simula XI’s Vikram, thus clinched the Diwali Premier League T20 Cricket Cup. Rajesh Gill was adjudged man of the match and man of the series, Atul Sharma best batsman, while best bowler award went to Shamsher Singh and Pavit Singh. The match was officiated by Sudhir Singh and JD Singh as umpires and Yogesh Sharma as scorer, while the tournament was organised jointly by Simula Sports Club, J&K Police Department and J&K State Sports Council under the supervision of Hilal Rather (Chairman Organizing Committee), Rajesh Gill (Organizing Secretary), Rajesh Dhar (Convener Technical Committee) and Shashi Pal
