EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu 14th Nov., 2011
Natrang is hosting an International performance of a Rock Band from New York on 16th of November at 5 pm at its studio theatre. Solar Punch is a US based Rock band which is on a mission to promote climate solutions globally and bridge cultural bridges.
Giving details about this Natrang Director Balwant Thakur informed here today that Solar Punch uses music to sing about science and the environment and holds workshops to help explain simple solar concepts and provide examples of where solutions are in use at locations around the world. Routinely performing as a four piece band, Solar Punch was founded by james dean conklin and Alan Bigelow in September 2007. Solar Punch is part journalism, part classroom, part multi-cultural bridge builder, and all rock and roll. The noteworthy part of the group is that they perform through solar powered equipments and instruments. Expanding on the 'edu-tainment' concepts learned with Circus Guy and influenced by the activism and musicianship of local legend Pete Seeger, Solar Punch has become a real-world model of how solar energy works.
After participating in the breakthrough tour across India, addressing environmental challenges with climate leadership workshops and creative eco-activism via song, dance and art, Solar Punch has worked hard to learn more - about how solar energy works - about how sustainable communities develop - about water issues, food issues, air-quality, soil development, hydro-fracturing, waste, solar cooking. Though these climate and environmental issues are massive, but they strive to be a model of the changes we all wish to see in the world.
Sorar Punch, Yew York is on a tour to India these days and Natrang feels honored to host one of their performance. A Dogri play on environment will also be staged by Natrang artists for the visiting International musicians. Balwant Thakur invited all Natrang wellwishers to attend this function and encourage the visiting US artists to the town
