Govt scared of implementing PSC recommendations | Rehabilitation of migrants | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 14: Even has the migrant pundits continue to suffer in one way or the other, the government seems in no mood to declare all the, movable and immovable, sold by the displaced persons (Kashmiri Pandits) after 1989-90, as "Distress Sales". The State government was further directed to restore possession of properties back to the Kashmiri Pundits. This had been recommended by the Parliamentary Committee (PSC) recommendations submitted in its seventh report. The high level committee comprising leader of the opposition Sushma Swaraj, Mamta Banerjee, Sachin Pilot and others had urged the state government to take several measures to safeguard the interests of displaced persons. However, officials cite `valid reasons' for delay in implementing the recommendations. Early Times sought views of firebrand Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani on the issue in April when the recommendations were widely discussed in the local media. His spokesman, Ayaz Akber said the chairman will go through the recommendations and give his opinion publicly. However, to this day, the leader did not come out with a statement. A senior government official preferring anonymity said the government was considering the recommendations of the committee and a decision shall be taken shortly. However, he admitted that some recommendations like declaring all sales null and void would trigger a severe backlash in the Valley. "This recommendation is very difficult to fulfil. It can set Kashmir on fire and the people who take decisions in New Delhi must appreciate our problems", he said. |
