Bhan, Manhas among 4 appointed counsels for NIA | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Union Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed four prominent advocates as the counsels for National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Jammu & Kashmir. According to a notification from Internal Security-I Division of union Ministry of Home Affairs, four prominent advocates have been appointed to represent NIA in Jammu & Kashmir High Court and two designated courts in Jammu & Kashmir. While as TADA Court Srinagar is also functioning as the designated court for NIA cases, Special TADA Court Jammu is NIA's designated court in Jammu division. The notification issued by MHA reads: "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 15 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), read with sub-section (8) of section 24 of the Code of Criminal Procedure , 1973 (2 of 1974), the Central Government hereby appoints Shri P.N. Raina, Advocate as Special Public Prosecutor cum Standing Counsel/ Retainer Counsel, Shri Vijay Kumar Gupta, Advocate as Special Public Prosecutor, Shri Baldev Singh Manhas, Advocate as Special Public Prosecutor and Shri Anil Bhan, Advocate as Standing Counsel/ Retainer in the Hon'ble High Court of J&K (Srinagar Bench), and Special Public Prosecutor in the NIA Special Court, Srinagar, for conducting the cases instituted by the National Investigation Agency in the trial courts, appeals, revisions or other matters arising out of the case in revisional or appellate courts established by law in the territory of the state of Jammu & Kashmir". |
