Chaman Lal for developing War Memorial at Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu: The former Union Minister of State for Defence, Chaman Lal Gupta has emphasized the need for developing War Memorial at Jammu and some other such like places to make these spots of tourists’ attraction. Voicing his dismay over the plight of War Memorial (Balidan Satambh) at Jammu, Prof. Gupta said that crores were spent for construction of this satambh with an idea of remembering these war heroes and making it a place of visitors attraction but it is an irony of fate that not only the basic idea was ignored with the change of guards at the Centre, even the big hoarding installed for the purpose near the Vikram Chowk Tawi Bridge has been mysteriously removed. Gupta said that the jawans and officers coming from all over the country to defend this State as an integral part of India have made tremendous sacrifices. Thousands have laid their lives. It is a sad commentary that the forces are being made a part of the political debate but for certain nefarious ends of the separatists and semi-separatists coupled with the confused approach at New Delhi. Responding to the complaints of group of ex-servicemen who called upon him, Gupta said that it is deplorable that even the ex-servicemen of this State are not being given the facilities which are being provided them in other parts of the country. The ex-servicemen enlisted many complaints including the one that denial of the VAT concessions at the Canteens etc. He recalled the several concessions and facilities provided to the families of War heroes of Kargil conflict during the NDA rule which were never provided earlier. This will be the real tribute to Kargil War Heroes.
