Govt land worth Rs 152 Cr grabbed by politicians, police in Kathua
Revenue Minister orders probe, Sarpanch alleges action on papers only

Jammu, Nov 15: Land mafia active in Kathua reportedly in connivance with revenue officials has grabbed government land at different prime locations worth Rs152 Crores, sources said. A sarpanch lodges complaint to Minister for Revenue & Relief Raman Bhalla who has ordered a probe in this regard.
Sources revealing this the land grabbing incident valuing crores came to limelight when people of Hiranagar led by Sarpanch of village Koota, Kant Kumar, Hiranagar lodged complaint with minister for Revenue and Relief Raman Bhalla. The deputation apprised that that government land marked to be used for community welfare purpose has been grabbed by politicians and police officers in connivance with the revenue officials.
"Though, the complaint was forwarded to the DC Kathua for immediate action but even after the lapse of two months no action has been taken, alleged the Sarpanch further adding after the complaint was faxed to the DC Kathua, tehsildhar Hiranagar Rajeev Magotra came to the scene for demarcation purpose, but again when he was approached he started showing his lackadaisical attitude towards the sensitive issue, the reason best known to him.
Sarpanch also mentioned that in his complaint, it was alleged that hundred of marlas of land which was declared as water bodies, situated on Prime location, has been grabbed. A piece of land comprised of 5 kanal 11 marlas in Mohalla Ariyan, 12 kanal 15 marlas in Charani Tallab, pond of 24 kanal near Assa Ram Bappu Ashram, 96 kanal land near Bada Tallab has allegedly been grabbed.
"The prime land has been occupied by a senior Congress leader in Hiranagar and other prime located land situated in Gagwhal has been grabbed by senior police officer and the estimated value of these pieces of land is stated to be 152 crore, the complainant said.
"To get the government machinery to wake up from slumber, numerous complaints were lodged with the revenue officers but all went in air despite sure assurances," sarpanch further alleged. Finally the matter was taken to the minister, he said, ' who ordered a probe in it immediately. DC Kathua Zahida Khan when contacted, admitting the delay, informed that a team for demarcation purpose has been constituted.
