Omar did no homework before going public on AFSPA: PDP | 'Using AFSPA as tool' | | Jammu: Taking on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over what she termed as utter failure in handling AFSPA issue, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti today alleged he is 'using' Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) as a tool to divert the attention of the people and the Centre from Yousuf's death. Mehbooba also questioned BJP's silence over Haji Yousuf death and rampant corruption in the state and castigated the leadership for playing 'double' and suing dual standards over common issues. "It was only AFSPA that rescued Omar's government in 2010 Kashmir crisis in which over 100 people were killed. Abdullah is just playing a political gimmick and 'using' AFSPA as a shelter to divert attention from Yousuf's mysterious death," Ms Mufti said later while speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the rally. Criticising Omar for not having home work over the sensitive issue, Mehbooba said before coming to any final decision on AFSPA, the Chief Minister should have consulted all the stakeholders. "He did not deem it proper either to consult its coalition partner Congress nor discussed it in the Cabinet but as an individual, he announced that AFSPA has to be revoked from certain areas of the state, which shows that he tried to save his skin and divert the attention from the current issue of Yousuf's death," the PDP chief alleged. She further said, "during our regime, when POTA was revoked, the decision was taken after the consensus was developed, but it was not party's individual stand," she said. She also criticised the BJP for adopting 'silence' on Haji Yousf's death. " BJP raised the issues of corruption across the country, ……..but have maintained silence in this state…..one can only hope the Advani will also highlight rising corruption in Jammu and Kashmir and the issue of Yousf's death as well," the PDP chief said. |
