People in J&K have more freedom of speech than China: Dalai | Indian democracy cannot be compared with any non democratic federation. | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Nov 16: The Buddhist spiritual head His Holiness Dalai Lama today said that the people in Jammu and Kashmir have more freedom of expression under the law of the land and said that a democratic country like India cannot be compared with a country like China. Nobel Laureate Dalai Lama at the side lines his visit to Jammu Kala Kendra where he inaugurated photo exhibition of Delhi based father son photographers Vijay and Akshit Kranti said this. The Photo exhibition is based on the excavation and the artifacts found from the Buddhist monastic complex at Ambaran located on the bank of river Chenab in Akhnoor Tehsil of Jammu District. “I think in India in spite of some sort of negative things here and there, but basically with rule of law in place and open society people in Kashmir have complete freedom of speech.” Dalai Lama said. He said that every issue could be settled through dialogues. “I think through talks and under standings things (relationship) will improve within the society.” Dalai Lama added. He said that 20th century has witnessed lot of bloodshed and said that people must work together for making 21st century free of violence. “What I said where ever I goes is that 20th century became century of violence. “According to many historians over 200 million peoples got killed through violence and War.” Dalia Lama said. He said that we people fail to yield any result by means of violence. “So let’s work in this 21st century and to effort for making the world more peaceful and free from violence.” Dalai Lama further added. He said that India is a country spreading the message of peace from ancient time, which is similar to a message given by him. “India’s message from hundreds of year is “Ahensa” which means non violence is something very relevant today and there is hope that massage of non violence will help in promotion of unity and harmony among the people of the world.” Dalai Lama said. In response to the question regarding regular attempt of incursion by the Chinese tropes in India and particularly in Ladakh, Dalai Lama said that it is due to feeling of instability within the Chinese government and is routine affair. But this would not affect much to India, he added. “I think India is the biggest of the democratic country and economically its gradually improving and as far as China is concerned it is a non democratic country where there is lot of resentment among their own peoples as we witnessed thousands of suppressed cases from different quarters every year and so in long run obviously a democratic society with rule of law in place feels much more stable than a non democratic state.” Dalai Lama said. Dalai Lama refuses to comment on political issue like softening of standing from government of India over Tibet and recently raised controversy over some scenes in bollywood film “Rock Star.” He however added that in the month of March this year he had voluntary handed over all his responsibilities to elected political leadership. “I not only retired by also my 40 years old tradition including my spirituality has now come to an end and any question pertaining to Tibet will now only be answered by newly elected government,” Dalai Lama said. After inaugurating the Photo Exhibition, His Holiness Dalai Lama was drove straight the ancient Buddhist site of Ambaran, which is located on the bank of Chenab near Akhnoor where he delivered sermon. Thousands of people from different walks of life have gathered to get a glimpse of Buddhist Spiritual Leader at Akhnoor and listen his public sermon. Local peoples believes that after today’s visit of His Holiness, the place will become be more religious and will attract a positive response from tourist giving boost to the economy of the area. Dalai Lama was accompanied with Minister for Health and Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma, Miniter for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Food and Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon, Minister for Tourism Nawan Rigzin Johra, MP Madan Lal Sharma, Political Advisor to CM Mubarak Gul and Davinder Singh Rana, officials of District Administration and Police. Ambaran Akhnoor came into limelight when Dalai Lama inaugurated Photo exhibition at New Delhi showing excavations and artifacts by the Archaeological Survey of India that includes foundations of Stupas, meditation cells for monks and portions of big walls revealing evidences of different phases of construction dating back to 2nd century BC to 6th-7th century AD.
