Hurriyat wants India-Pak to take note of aspirations of J&K people: Bhat | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu/Srinagar, Nov 16: While appreciating India and Pakistan 's resolve to promote cordial ties in the interest of peace in South Asia, the Kashmiri separatists wish to get involved in the parleys. A senior All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat ,said that the exercise on reducing trust deficit between the two sides was a health step being taken by Islamabad and New Delhi but both Pakistan and India have to address the sufferings, pain, frustration and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir . Bhat said that notwithstanding the fact that Kashmir is a bilateral issue between Pakistan and India but New Delhi and Islamabad cannot ignore people of Jammu and Kashmir because they are the arbiters. Other Hurriyat leaders, including Moulvi Abbas Ansari, had said that steps for improving people to people contact, trade, commerce besides easing visa rules were in the interests of people of the subcontinent but if the two sides wish to live as friends they should first of all settle the Kashmir issue. Bhat said that neither Islamabad nor New Delhi can close its eyes to the miseries and destruction what people of state witnessed till date. "People need to be heard and their sufferings mitigated," Bhat underlined, adding that it can be done if India and Pakistan take note of the aspirations of people of the state. He said that India and Pakistan have lived as enemies during the last six decades and during this period people of the state had to suffer the pangs of four wars. “We want an end to this bitterness and hostility,” he said adding that once Islamabad and New Delhi took into confidence representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir by initiating the process of dialogue it would lead to a durable settlement of the Kashmir issue. |
