JKPCC in fighting mode, says NC must behave or else…!
Message From Surinsar -- III
11/16/2011 11:43:16 PM
Neha
JAMMU, Nov 16: National Conference (NC) is known for its utter bias against the people of Jammu province. It is only Congress, which the people bank upon in taking up their issues in a bold and fearless manner.
In the Surinsar rally, apart from PCC chief Prof Sai-uDin Soz, there were a few Jammu-based leaders who talked tough and warned the NC to reform itself failing which the Congress would toughen its stand.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, JKPCC vice-president Dharmpal Sharma and MP Madan Lal Sharma, for example, tore into the NC and talked about discriminatory policies against the people of Jammu province, rotational chief minister, the NC leadership's arrogance and its attack on the Congress and the Congress leadership, the Congress' interests and the failure of the NC to respect the coalition dharma. They were highly critical of the NC.
Mangat Ram Sharma, in fact, raked up the issue of rotational chief minister and suggested that Omar Abdullah must be shown the door so that a Congress leader from Jammu takes over from the present incumbent. He made these suggestions in the presence of the JKPCC chief. It was for the fifth time that the former Deputy Chief Minister vouched for the 2002 power-sharing formula. He is one Congress leader in Jammu who has consistently maintained that the continuation of Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister beyond the first week of January 2012 would mar the poll prospectus of the Congress party in Jammu province.
Dharmpal Sharma didn't talk about the 2002 power-sharing formula. At the same time, however, he launched a blistering attack on the NC and denounced the NC for its anti-Congress and anti-Army statements. He virtually dismissed the NC as deceitful. He, in addition, said the people of Jammu province have suffered enormous losses under the present dispensation. In other words, he also indirectly attacked the Congress ministers and charged them with toeing the anti-Jammu NC line. It is significant to note that the Surinsar meet had also been attended by three ministers -- Minister for Medical and Technical Education R S Chib, Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma and Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla. Their tone and tenor was different. They did not utter a single word against the NC for reasons best known to them.
It would not be out of place to mention here that there are at least three Congress ministers in the Omar Abdullah's cabinet who have consistently showered praises on Omar and asserted that the present dispensation has been consistently working for the balanced development of the three regions.
The Congress has already sacrificed a lot to ensure smooth functioning of alliance but its patience should not be tested further. Congresswaale yateem nahin hain (Congress is certainly not an orphan). Congress observes everything quietly yet maintains calm for national interest and adheres to the directives of high command. But enough should be enough, beyond a limit, it would become intolerable…"
What Madan Lal Sharma said was a direct warning to the NC. His warning, coupled with the views as expressed by the two other Sharmas, both senior vice-presidents, was perhaps the only thing that did inspire to an extent the otherwise demoralized Congress workers. All in all, it can be said that the outcome of the Surinsar meet was both disappointing and inspiring. It was disappointing for the people of Jammu province. It was inspiring to the extent that the Jammu-based Congress leaders sided with the Army. It was also inspiring to an extent because they warned the NC to behave and not test their patience beyond a limit. (Concluded)
