Overloading- a bad habit of Rajourians | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Rajouri Nov 17: Overloading which under rules is a traffic crime but in Rajouri drivers and conductors are flouting norms as the most of the private public conveyance transport are seen jam packed to the tip just to earn more money as they can. Not only the private public transport be it the mini buses, or be it the Mazda or other transport but the two wheelers too are seen carrying triplet driving. The drivers in lieu of earning more from the others are even seen loading passengers like filling up of a sack many youth were seen hanging around the mini buses especially on the ever busy routes of Thanamandi, Manjakote, Thandikassi, Doongi etc that are notorious for frequent road mishaps. The fatal road accidents on these routes had not deterred people and the drivers as well who have made the over loading a habit on these routes and many are seen traveling on vehicle roof and by clinging to the staircase on back of the vehicle. Some people in Rajouri rued that the concerned authorities have failed to the shoulder their responsibility to check rampant overloading as both the Traffic Police and Transport Department have closed their eyes to the sensitive issue. While the authorities reason the lack of man power to meet the challenge while the locals point out it is because of the nexus between the concerned authorities and the transport owners. Secondly they allege that the drivers knowing the frequency of the transport mode on the peripheral roads took chances and deliberately delay their scheduled plying on the route and after making the passengers wait for hours they emerge and get a good harvest of their delaying and whenever any one have raised voice against overloading, the drivers and operators of vehicle under a routine affairs have harassed and even manhandled at times.
