Maulana Azad’s personality is guiding principle even today

Hyderabad, Nov 17: The personality and thought of Maulana Azad is still a guiding principle for the present day circumstances.
Maulana Azad has contributed so immensely to the field of education, politics and society that his services would be remembered for a long time to come in the world.
These thoughts were expressed by former VC of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi Shahid Mehdi, IAS (Rtd). while addressing the Valedictory Function of Maulana Azad’s Birthday celebrations which ended yesterday. He said that a ban should be imposed on privatization of education which Maulana Azad himself advocated. Maulana Azad was opposed to this system because education would be confined to the rich and the elite class.
He further advised that Islamic educational institutions should be linked to higher education, especially to university system.
Narrating the background of the inception of Indian Council of Cultural Relations he said that it was established to show that India is a multi cultural country and a sizeable population of the Muslims still live in it.
Referring to education and culture, he said that by the amalgamation of these two an established and beautiful society could be constituted.
Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University presided over the Valedictory Function.
In his presidential speech he announced that the UGC has sanctioned “Maulana Azad Chair” for Urdu University and a competent professor would be selected to occupy this position.
He advised the students to participate in cultural and sports activities besides concentrating on their studies seriously. Khalid Sayeed welcomed the guest and the audience.
Zafaruddin gave the details of the programmes conducted during the Azad Day Celebrations.
Abid Abdul Wasey, Public Relations officer conducted the meeting. Khatija Begum Registrar incharge proposed a vote of thanks. Books written by Shahid Naukhez Azmi and Mohammed Mustafa Ali Sarwari were released by Shahid Mehdi Prizes among the winners of literary & sports competitions were also distributed on the occasion.
