Inter-collegiate debate organized by center for women studies, MIER Early Times Report

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, November 17: An inter-collegiate debate on the topic ‘Should women be working in the male bastion world’ was organized by the Shanti Gupta Center for Women Studies of MIER College of Education.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Haffiza Muzzafar, Secretary State Women Commission, and J&K. The function was presided over by Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER Group of Institutions.

Eminent academicians gracing the occasion were Dr. Surinder Kaur, Controller Examinations MIER, Dr B L Raina, HOD M. e d. Department, Dr. Annie Koul, HOD B. ed wing and Rajendra Praveen, HOD B. Ed Special Education wing.

Dr. Kulwant Kaur, Professor and Head Department of Political science, University of Jammu, Madhu Gupta, ex. Director CWS G G M Science College, Jammu and Rashmil Mishra, Placement Officer, MIET were the honorable jury members.

Formal welcome address was presented by Dr. Surinder Kaur, Controller Examinations MIER. In her welcome address she hailed the achievements of Haffiza Muzzafar who is a lady of great mission and vision having firm determination and all the qualities of head and heart. .

Sixteen students from various colleges across Jammu city participated in this debate. Two students each from M C Khalsa College of Education, KCS. College of Education, Dogra College of Education, Shivalik College of Education, J.K. College of Education, Sai Shyam College of Education, Government College for Women, Parade and MIER College of Education presented their views for and against the motion.

On the basis of the results given by Jury members, Kiran Wala of J.K College of Education clinched the 1st prize, Kanika representing Shivalik College of Education won the 2nd prize and Sandeep Jamwal M C Khalsa College stood 3rd .

Prizes were awarded to the winners and certificates were distributed to the participants by the esteemed Chief guest. The Chief Guest also inaugurated the Wall Magazine maintained by the CWS wing.

Chief Guest, in her address appreciated the views expressed by the participants. She furthermore expressed her views about the status of women today where 75% women earn but only 3% own this wealth. .
