| Pahari speaking people hold protest rallies, demand ST status | | | JAMMU JAN-08- To press its demand for grant of Scheduled Tribe status, the Pahari peaking people of the State today held protest demonstrations at the district headquarters and impressed upon both the Centre and the State Governments to concede this genuine demand of the community which has been pending since long.
A protest rally in this regard was organized at Pritam Park Poonch under the president ship of Azam Sagar Provincial president of Pahari Culture and Welfare Forum at Poonch today. The Pahari employees of the district observed mass casual leave and participated in the rally in large numbers. The rally was among others attended by the people from Mandi, Surankot,, Mendhar and Haveli .
A procession was also taken out from the Pritam Park, which after passing through the main bazaars of the town raising slogans in favour of granting ST status to the Pahari speaking people culminated at Deputy Commissioners’ office and a memorandum was handed over to the district administration listing their demand.
A handout said that the speakers at the rally unanimously resolved to intensify stir till the government concedes the demand. |
