Slathia inaugurates blue sapphire auction

JAMMU, NOV18: Minister for Industries & Commerce S.S. Slathia inaugurated auction of world famous (Kashmir Blue Saphire stone), held by J&K Minerals Limited for the 2nd time during current financial year at Jawahar Lal Nehru Udhyog Bhawan near Rail head complex Bahu Plaza here today.
In 2008, the auction of Saphire was conducted after 20 years in which the Corporation had realized revenue worth Rs1.32 Crores. The revenue generated through auction in 2009 stood at Rs 74 crores. During the current year geoglists and mining engineers have extracted around 9000 gms of Saphire.
Interacting with the media, the Minister said that 63 lots weighing 18 kgs approximately have been put to sale in the 2-day auction beginning today.
In the inaugural procession, lot number 20 was put on sale at first which went under the hammer at Rs 7.85 Lakhs .
The Minister said Kashmir Blue Sapphire stone is one of the finest Sapphire, adding it is famous world over for its quality. He said strict security arrangement have been put in place by the government to stop any sort of theft in the area.

Div Com reviews progress on implementation of PRA

Srinagar, Nov 18: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today chaired a high level divisional level officers meeting to review the progress made in implementing Panchayat Raj system and transfer of powers to the basic functionaries in the valley.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that by empowering Panchs, Sarpanchs will led to transparency in implementing various socio-welfare schemes which will help in reduction of corrupt practices and ensure benefits will percolate at the grass root level.
Samoon asked the concerned District Development Commissioners to organise the training programmes for the officials of concerned departments, so that they get acquainted within provision of Panchayat Raj and implement centrally sponsored and other schemes effectively in respective areas. He said Panchs and Sarpanchs would also get training regarding their duties so that progress is ensured at grass root level.
Earlier, Prof. Shahnawaz Aalam presented power point presentation regarding Panchayat Raj system to the participants.
The District Development Commissioners, Director Rural Development, other head of the departments of concerned departments besides Assistant Commissioners Development and District Panchayat officers attended the meeting.
