Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B League match | Goa gains 1st innings lead despite Hardeep’s heroic ton | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 18: Despite a splendid century by J&K’s skipper Hardeep Singh, Goa rode on a superb bowling performance by Off-Spinner AR Yadav and gained 21 runs lead over Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B League match at GGM Science College, Hostel ground, here. Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 15/0, J&K lost Ian Dev Singh early in the morning, castled by SS Bandekar in his first over of the day. Then wicket-keeper batsman Manish Dogra joined the overnight opener Adil Reshi and consolidated the innings to take the score to 61, before Dogra was dismissed by Ryan D’souza at his individual score of 25 runs. Suddenly in the space of 22 runs, J&K lost three quick wickets in the form of Adil, Vimarsh Kaw and Parvez Rasool, to reduce the side to 83/5 wickets in 27.2 overs. However, a good partnership of 61 runs between Skipper Hardeep Singh and Shashi Kumar took the score to 144 in 39.3 overs, when Shashi saw his stumps uprooted on a Vasanth Sarvanan delivery. Hardeep Singh continued his brilliance and led from the front to salvage the sinking ship and helped J&K to reach closer to the Goa total, but fell short of partners to give Jammu and Kashmir the much required first innings lead. He, however made a most valuable partnership of 52 runs with number ten batsman Abid Nabi, who scored useful 16 runs. Hardeep was the last man to go at his individual score of 109 runs and team’s total of 260 runs, but not before hitting two massive sixes, when he was on 99 and crossed the hundred run mark with these shots, which were simply delight to watch. He struck all the shots with fluidity and grace and his charismatic 161-ball knock was amalgam of almost all the shots in the book. Samiullah Beigh also contributed useful 13 runs to the total. For Goa, AR Yadav was pick of the bowlers, taking four important wickets, Robin Dsouza bagged 2 wickets, while Bandekar, Ryan Dsouza, Abhishek Raut and Vasanth Sarvanan claimed one wicket apiece. Goa were comfortably placed at 71/1 at stumps on day two. Opener SS Yadav was unbeaten on 43 runs and Abhishek Raut was on 27. YU Naik was the only wicket to fell for naught, caught by Ian Dev Singh after the bowling of Abid Nabi in the very first over of Goa’s second innings. The match is being officiated by Ramesh Kumar (AP) and Ajit S Datar as umpires, while Sushil Dewan (Punjab) is the online scorer and Ashwani Kumar (J&K) acts as the manual scorer. Former International Cricketer Atul Bedade is the match referee, while former International Umpire Jasbir Singh is the umpire coach.
