Does Dr Abdullah want his son to collide with Delhi? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: It has become customary for the ruling NC patron and union minister for new and renewable sources of energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah to bat for his son, State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. During the last nearly three years of his tenure in power, Dr. Farooq has tried at least a dozen times to bat and pad for his son who continues to play on a slippery wicket. This time the patron of the NC has said the Chief Minister is the boss when it comes to taking any decision on the crucial issues those concern the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Little does the NC patron realize that his assertions should have been correlated with his own tenure and track record as the Chief Minister? How many times did the NC patron himself take decisions where he found a conflict of views between himself and the centre? Doesn't the senior NC leader realize that he would often air dash to New Delhi for even some routine administrative decisions like the choice of the chief secretary or the director general of police? Isn't it common knowledge that Dr. Farooq Abdullah would inform New Delhi of his intended decisions much earlier than he would inform his cabinet colleagues or the party? Yes, the elder Abdullah always found it prudent to consult the centre where matters were of such importance where the centre needed to be taken on board. The right advice from a father like Dr. Farooq Abdullah to his son should not have been that the CM is the boss. The right advice should have been that the CM is the boss only as long as New Delhi wants him to be so. Advising Omar Abdullah to embark on a collision course with the centre is not giving him the right advice. It is something that would result in the Chief Minister doing something in his over enthusiasm that could cost him both power and position in the government. Confrontation with the army, confrontation with the centre, confrontation with the Congress allies is something the Chief Minister can ill afford especially at a time when he is trying hard to re-establish his credibility. It is something the Chief Minister can ill afford to do because the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is always unpredictable. Nobody can assure that the coming summer or for that matter the present winter would be peaceful because Kashmir has had one of the best tourist seasons this summer. Omar Abdullah has himself expressed the feeling that things especially when they concern law and order and the overall security in the State can never be taken for granted. Emboldening Omar to embark on a collision course with New Delhi would only be something his worst enemies would advise the CM to do. One can only hope Dr. Farooq Abdullah is a well wisher and patron of his son who would not advise him anything the father-son duo would have to repent tomorrow. |
