NHPC fails to submit lease, fresh notices issued | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 19: State government Saturday issued notices to National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) informing them to handover four power projects back to the state. The notices were sent on the directions of Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohiddin. The notices were issued after the NHPC failed to submit lease and ownership documents to the state government by November 12, 2011. The government had set Nov 12 as deadline to the NHPC to produce the relevant documents of these projects. The minister said the government could shutdown or impose penalty on NHPC for failing to produce the documents. “The NHPC was given one year deadline to submit the documents but they failed. Now the government is at liberty to take action against the NHPC. Notices have been already issued to all the four general managers of the projects,” the minister told. He said that he had recently written a letter to the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in this regard. “As Omar sahib is holding Power portfolio himself, I had suggested him that all the projects should be taken back from the NHPC,” he said.
