| Seminar on works of Prof Madan Mohan Sharma begins | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 19:A two day national seminar, organized by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, on life and works of Prof. Madan Mohan Sharma, got underway today morning with the inaugural function held at KL Saigal Hall Jammu.
Savita Bakshi Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and
Languages presided over the function which was attended by a large number of writers, scholars and admirers of Prof. Madan Mohan Sharma.
Narsingh Dev Jamwal, renowned litterateur presented the keynote address.
Savita Bakshi in her presidential address highlighted the significance of the seminar and said that Sahitya Akademi should be commended for holding such seminar on great litterateur of the region who in nearly six decades of ceaseless creative journey in, varied genres, like short stories, novels, stage plays, radio dramas, essays, travelogues, humorous pieces, literary criticism and editorial comments, enriched Dogri literature.
Earlier welcoming the audience and the dignitaries on the dais Prof Veena Gupta, convener Dogri Advisory Board in Sahitya Akademi, explained in detail the aims and objectives of the seminar.
She said that Prof Madan Mohan made significant additions to the corpus of Dogri literature. Being an enlightened writer, teacher and intellectual, he also contributed in the form of essays, write ups, travelogues, and pieces on literary criticism.
Literary giants like Gitanjali Chatterjee, Deputy Secretary, Sahitya Akademi ,New Delhi, thanked the audience which included number of participal1ts of the seminar, writers, intellectuals, prominent' citizens. In the two day seminar besides three paper reading sessions and one short story reading, enactment of Madan Mohan Sharma's short story 'prahchit' will also be presented by the artists of Rangyug.
In the first session ND Sharma and Suman Sharma will present on Madan Mohan Sharma's life and psychological aspects respectively. The session would be presided over by Dr. Ved Ghai.
During post lunch sitting Dr. Nirmal Vinod will present his paper on Sharma's novels while Dhyan Singh and Dr. S.P Srivats will present their papers on the contribution of the late writer in the field of short story and literary criticism. Prof. Baldev Singh will preside over the session.
