JKPP hails BDC elections | Vows to fight for implementation of 73rd, 74th amendments | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU,Nov 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Parishad (JKPP) shall continue its movement in J&K till 73rd,74th Amendments are implemented in toto and there is a visible devolution of powers to Panchayats," said Jugal Kishore Gupta State President of JKPP in the Executive Body meeting. He said that the decision of Omar Abdullah Govt. to hold election to Block Development Councils and the role played by political parties particularly Prof. Soz and the Congress in the matter is a welcome step in the right direction. The members highlighted the role and importance of the Panchayati Raj in bringing peace, progress and prosperity. They resolved to appeal the newly elected panchs and sarpanchs to try their luck and elect BDC Chairmen from among themselves in large number. They appealed the Govt. to pay the honorarium for attending the meetings of PRI'S @ Rs 500 per meeting also the clarity on devolution and utilization of funds by panchayats is needed. Gupta informed the members that JKPP is soon starting a Training-Cum-Awareness programme for Panches and Surpanches. This has been discussed with Secretary General of All India Panchayat Parishad SS Vijai Mishra who is also a member of expert committee, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Govt. of India during his recent meeting to Jammu.
