| Hi Tech Rollercoaster: Troughs and crests of Omar led 'e-Coalition' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: While Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah claims that by writing 140 characters on the micro blogging site he can straightway reach over 75,000 followers and communicate with them but his hi tech claims falls down as majority of his e-governance sites have nothing new in their baskets.
Barring few followers on the facebook and twitter, thousands of common people of Jammu and Kashmir who want to have glance of the tall claims of the hi tech government and surf the concerned department sites but to their surprise the govt websites have nothing at all. Some have old data while many fail to open with a veiled screen saying 'sorry the site is being uploaded' and the message remains on the screens for months perhaps the officials claiming the 'e-governance' in the state have not ever surfed their own government's websites otherwise they shouldn't have claimed so high.
"Many times when we need some piece of information from the official website of the J&K state government they end up having nothing in their basket, rued a university students Ranjit Singh .
Need to mention here that official website of the J&K state government is not functioning for quite some time but it seems no effort has been made till date to rectify the technical snag. Same is the position with official website of J&K tourism which spends crores of rupees on the promotion of Tourism.
Though some followers of Chief Minister on his micro blogs have also brought this issue in his kind notice for speedy action yet the things have not improved.
The net savvy people who want some information promptly simply fail to understand the fact that when almost all the state government departments different districts have got their own exclusive website and sharing information in real time what is stopping the state government from taking effective measures to make the official website functional without much delay.
If it is the lack of authority or accountability which has led to this crisis and instead of gathering some feedback from the concerned/ respective areas the concerned officials are only inviting criticism from various quarters not for them but for the whole department and even for the government.
The state government officials often claim that they have nothing to do with the functioning of the official website of the state government as the same is taken care of by the team of National Informatics centre (NIC).
The NIC team complains about the lack of material and updates made available to them by the state government which is the main reason for long black outs in the virtual world of world wide web (www) resulting into the problems of the surfers who surf the site of the department lacking information. |
