Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's visit to Regional Transport Office (RTO) for renewal of driving license, referred as landmark by Jammu and Kashmir Information Department, did no good to the traders, commoners and transporters operating from badly damaged transport yards of Transport Nagar.
The traders have dust, water logged roads and electricity blues to deal with, commoners face worst kind of traffic Jams and abuses of traffic officials while transports are often seen complaining of innumerable problems they face. Chief Minister had no time to meet these poor fellows and hence, does know anything about this since he travelled in a fleet of vehicles to the office of Regional Transport Officer (RTO).
His visit ensured that traffic was diverted and commoners, who spend on Petrol and Diesel from their pockets unlike the Chief Minister, police officials, ministers and others VVIPs, are left to wait and wale. Since the argument cannot be supplemented with videographic evidence but those on road know how cops on duty during VVIP movement behave especially when the person concerned is Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's visit to places where common man visits as a matter of routine makes news since information department invites one and all, either in person or through official press notes. But, the visit helps none apart from the Chief Minister. Omar visited a Dhaba, had food their and it became a news but it made no difference to the people living in the area around the Dhaba.
Omar visited a Dhaba on the National Highway and again had food their there. The food he eats alongwith details of Salad and other things he had there made news but again the fortunes of people traveling on the national highway, working in Baghliar Project and disengaged by Northern railway did not change. Omar had no time to invite a few of them for lunch or dinner to know them better and see if their fortune can be changed.
The traders of Transport Nagar have been crying since long for upkeep and repair of roads connecting various yards. They have given several representations to the concerned officials but to no avail. Their water, roads and electricity problems have multiplied but none is there to take measures for making it modal for other transport yards. So, Chief Minister's visit did make news but actually did no good to public.
