| Governor for effective preservation , showcasing of Pahari miniature paintings, other art forms | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 20 - Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, has pointed to the usefulness of effective documentation, preservation and showcasing of Pahari Miniature Paintings and other art forms originating from Jammu and Kashmir across the world.
The Governor, as Chief Guest, was addressing a symposium on “Pahari Miniature Painting traditions with special emphasis on the life and wok of Mr. Nainsukh, 18th century Pahari painter”, at Amar Mahal Museum and Library here today.
The Governor observed that organizing of such symposia and lectures by the renowned experts in the field of art and culture go a long way in creating awareness about our rich artistic and cultural heritage and showcasing it on a much larger scale. He added that art and literature had flourished in Jammu and Kashmir in the centuries past.
The Governor congratulated Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director, Amar Mahal Museum and Library, for organizing this event and suggested that she may early consider the possibility of organizing similar exposures in other parts of the country, to enhance awareness of the invaluable treasure embedded in the Pahari miniature paintings. He observed that he would be happy to support the Museum’s future endeavours for the promotion of art and culture.
Referring to his earlier visits to the Amar Mahal Museum and Library, the Governor said that this magnificent historical building possesses a very rich collection of miniature and other paintings.
The Governor complimented Dr. B. N. Goswami and Prof. Eberhardt Fischer, eminent experts on miniature paintings, for their valuable work on Pahari miniature paintings and Mr. Amit Dutta, Director of the film “Nainsukh” for his significant contribution to making the painter from Guler known all over the world.
Dr. B. N. Goswami, an expert on miniature paintings and art historian, explained the uniqueness of these art creations through an exciting power point presentation.
Prof. Eberhardt Fischer, eminent anthropologist and art writer spoke at some length and described miniature paintings as a world treasure. He dwelt on the origin, history and evolution of miniature paintings and spoke about the salient features of the film, “Nainsukh”.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director, Amar Mahal Museum and Library, spoke about the aims and objects of organizing this event.
The screening of the film, “Nainsukh” is aimed at to create awareness among the people at large regarding the socio-cultural and aesthetic importance of the art of miniatures as well as provide a platform for introduction of the technique of miniature to the younger generation of the State through demonstrations and presentations by the professional miniatures artists.
Among those present on the occasion were a number of renowned artists, writers, intellectuals and prominent citizens.
