Chief Postmaster General J&K flags off “Philately Fun Run” | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 20:“Philately Fun Run” was flagged off today morning from University of Jammu by Chief Postmaster General, J&K, John Samuel. The atmosphere was festive with young school children supporting shirts and caps depicting slogans on “Jammu Stamp Show-2011” and “I Love Philately”. More than thousand school children participated in the run. In the cool and refreshing morning breeze, the run passed through different routes from New University Campus and finally culminated at Balidan Stambh. For the students it was an exciting experience to run alongwith other school children as a fun actually rather then a race. This is the first time that a Philately Fun Run is organized by Department of Posts, Jammu. More than 30 schools participated in this historic Philatelic Fun Run. The prominent among them are Jodhamal School, Guru Nanak School, KV -2 Jammu, Sainik School Nagrota, GHS Dogra Hall Jammu. The race was a pre-runner to philatelic exhibition to be held from November 23 to 26 at Kala Kendra, Jammu. NN Vohra, His Excellency Governor of Jammu and Kashmir will inaugurate the Philatelic Exhibition on November 23 at Kala Kendra Jammu. This exhibition will kick start the Post Office Festival in Jammu and Kashmir. There will be around one lakh of rare stamps of India and other countries on display including the world’s first postage stamp “Penny Black”. India’s first postage stamp will also be displayed during the exhibition. Students and philatelists can display their stamp exhibits at the exhibition. To commemorate ‘Jammu Stamp Show-2011” and “ Post Office Festival” various activities like Seminars, Group-discussion, Letter Writing Contest, Stamp Designing Contest, Philatelic Workshop, Philately Fun Run and Quiz Competition are being held by the Department.
