11/20/2011 10:50:28 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 20:The All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) has strongly condemned the State Government for indulging in gross human rights violation by forcibly evicting Kashmiri Migrant families residing in Company Bagh area from their quarters.
APMCC said that the families being evicted are residing in the area for the last 22 years which include a lonely 85 year old mother of Naveen Saproo who was killed by militants in 1990.
APMCC chairman Vinod Pandit who visited the families in Company Bagh
Quarters alongwith ASKPC President Amarnath Vaishnavi, King C Bharati
Chairman, Citizens for Peace and Harmony (CPH) and Advocate Rahul
Kilam met the aggrieved families whose quarters were locked forcibly when they had gone out to market despite the fact that one of the occupants, Susheela Saproo residing in K-10 Quarter which was allotted to her family after her only son
Navin Saproo was killed by the militants on February 27, 1990 on the recommendation of the then governor vide his office letter No. GS-18
(88-89) 90 dated March 25, 1990.
Vinod has warned the government against harassing the migrant families of Company Bagh or any other place saying it was gross violation of human rights as well as the directions of Supreme Court of India which has clearly directed that no occupant should be evicted without making alternate arrangements for his shelter.
Terming the action of the Estates Department as unfortunate Vinod said that the mother of late Navin Saproo is spending her nights outside the door of her quarter while the administration has locked her quarter with all her belongings like medicines, money etc inside even as the new allottee has also put his household things inside her quarter.
He also wondered why no prior notice was given to migrants and two families evicted forcibly without making any alternate arrangements for them inspite of the fact that these families were residing in these quarters for the past 21 years.
He said that APMCC will not tolerate such human rights violation adding on the one hand Omar Abdullah Government was claiming to rehabilitate Kashmiri Migrants but on the other hand it was so insensitive that migrants are being forced out from their residences of 21 years without giving them any chance or alternate arrangements.
