Goa inflicts humiliating defeat on J&K as batsmen fail to apply | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 20 : Despite the fact that Jammu and Kashmir cricketers receive coaching from legendary Bishen Singh Bedi, whose ultimate goal is to infuse mental toughness as also cricketing sense in them, the host batsmen yet again showed least application and failed to hold their nerves, to help Goa's cause of clinching an outright victory and earn maximum points by inflicting a humiliating defeat of 177 runs on J&K in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group B League match at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today. Earlier, Goa set a target of 398 runs for J&K including first innings lead of 21 runs, after declaring their second innings at the overnight score of 376/9. J&K began the day disastrously as Goa speedster SS Bandekar uprooted the stumps of the in form opener Ian Dev Singh at his individual score of 3 runs and the team's total of 26 runs in just five overs. His aggressive partner Adil Reshi was shaping well alongwith number three batsman Manish Dogra, but, as usual, lost his temper when he was playing on 40 including six crispy boundaries, to be caught by Vaz after the bowling of Amit Yadav. Despite playing delightful brief knocks, Adil has yet to learn to convert them to big ones, not for his lack of talent but for lacking cricketing sense. His dismissal brought in Vimarsh Kaw, who desperately needed runs for his place in the team and for the cause of the team as well, but failed to negotiate with RS Dsouza's incoming delivery to be trapped LBW for 11 runs including two boundaries, which brought skipper Hardeep Singh, who slammed a heroic ton in the first innings, into bat, but he did not last long as he was caught by wicket-keeper Rahul Keni without scoring after the bowling of RS DSouza to put J&K in dire states at 89/4. With skipper's dismissal, Parvez Rasool joined Manish Dogra in the middle and as soon as the duo began to consolidate the innings, the lack of coordination between the two resulted in Dogra's suicidal run-out dismissal, when he was on 27 and the team's total on115/5. Shashi Kumar, who is not doing justice with his talent, joined Parvez and took the score to 140 runs, before Parvez gifted his wicket to left-arm spinner Sherbahadur Yadav by trying a paddle sweep, the shot needed more in shorter version of the game, forgetting about his team's requirement and that too in the last over before lunch. He struck 8 delectable boundaries in his knock of 44 runs. His partner Shashi again failed to show case his talent and was dismissed by Saravan cheaply after the lunch. However, Ram Dayal was the star performer of the day, who remained unbeaten on 54 runs including nine hits to the fence. The other batsmen failed to give him the company and the whole side got out at 220 runs, thus J&K lost the match by 177 runs. For the visitors, RS D'Souza, Amit Yadav and AS Raut claimed two wicket each, while RT DSouza, Sarvanan and Sherbadur Yadav took one wicket apiece. Goa secured 5 points with this victory, while J&K failed to earn any point . Meanwhile, the match was officiated by Ramesh Kumar (AP) and Ajit S Datar as umpires, while Sushil Dewan (Punjab) was the online scorer and Ashwani Kumar (J&K) acted as the manual scorer. Former International Cricketer Atul Bedade was the match referee, while former International Umpire Jasbir Singh was the umpire coach. |
