Kashmiri actress, who has acted in TV serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki, held in Pune for running prostitution racket | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU/MUMBAI, Nov 20: Small-time actress Azhara Jan (21) alias Zara of Kashmir, who has acted in TV serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki and Bollywood movie Lamhaa, was arrested Saturday from a five-star hotel in Pune on the charges of running a high-profile prostitution racket. Spot boy Neeraj Bhadani (27), who acted as her pimp, was also arrested. A tip-off led their arrest by officials of social security cell (SSC) of the Pune crime branch of police. The SSC arrested them from a five-star hotel located on Raja Bahadur Mill Road late Saturday afternoon. The case has been registered with the Bund Garden police station. The SSC team led by inspector Bhanupratap Barge laid a trap and nabbed the duo. The police said Zara was a native of Kashmir, but had shifted to Mumbai to pursue an acting career and was currently residing at Versova. The spot boy Bhadani is a native of New Delhi and is currently residing at Veera Desai Road in Andheri. "The investigation has so far revealed that the suspects were targeting customers from the upper echelons of society. Zara was charging Rs1.5 lakh per hour for her services. Also, there was a condition that the meeting should be held in a five-star hotel,'' said inspector Barge. The police said Bhadani was acting as an agent who used to arrange customers and book hotel rooms. Police said Zara and Bhadani had come to Pune in a rental car Saturday afternoon and were staying at a five-star hotel. Records at the same hotel showed that Bhadani had booked rooms here in his name several times before, the police said. During interrogation, Zara reportedly told the police that she had acted in the TV serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki and also in Bollywood movie Lamhaa. The police believe that the suspects have been operating the sex racket in big cities for the last two years. They also suspect that more persons from the television and film industry are involved in the racket. Zara and Bhadani were booked under sections 3,4 and 5 of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA), 1986. Hawaldar Ashok Takalkar had received information that the 21-year-old actresshad reached the hotel with a man, who was allegedly acting as a pimp. A decoy customer was sent to trap them. They would be produced before the magistrate on Sunday to seek their police remand. |
