KPs seek Prez’s intervention in the passage of temple protection bill | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 21: The All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) to seek intervention from the President of India for the savior of Hindu temples and shrines in Valley and else where is going to submit a memorandum in this regard to President of India Pratibha Singh Patil. The ASKPC has decided to submit a memorandum, giving details about the problems of the displaced people, to the President of India, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, senior functionary said. According to H L Chatha,a senior functionary of the All State Pandit Conference, we are requesting the President of India to prevail upon the state Government to adopt the bill for the protection of temples and shrines in the valley. He said that the stat Government has been delaying adoption of the bill and in the absence of any such law our temple an shrine lands continued to be encroached on and in certain cases grabbed." Chatha said that the President of India would be requested to use her constitutional powers for persuading the state Government for implementing the Distresssal Act. He said that the Migrant Immovable Property an Restrain of Distress Sales Act had been adopted by the state legislature in 1997 but till date it has not been enforced with the result displaced people continue to be forced to go in for distress sales and in certain cases immovable assets have been grabbed after forging sale deeds. It has also demanded Patil's help in securing Government nod to loan in favour of those educated displaced youths who wanted to set up industrial units. Chatha said that the Conference also has demanded reservation for the displaced youths in central Government departments besides the paramilitary forces and the Army because during the last 20 years the state Government has not initiated steps which could have opened avenues for the displaced youths in Government offices. He said another demand pertained to increase in the cash incentive and other benefits besides improvement in the overall welfare measures for the migrants.
