Sports after proper employment, Mr Political Advisor | | | Early Times Report NAGROTA, Nov 21:Chief Minister's political advisor, Davinder Singh Rana today said, "a healthy body possesses a healthy mind." He was giving away prizes to the winners of Inter-state wrestling finale here today. Rana talked about potential of sports persons. "We are creating facilities to enable them to prove their mettle at the state and national level events", he said. Not only sports persons but young men in general have the potential to compete with other states. However, the potential could not be tapped fully because of favouritism and nepotism `introduced and groomed' by the National Conference led government. The state is plagued by unemployment. Two years ago, the government announced an employment formula on the birth anniversary of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. The formula has evoked severe criticism from all quarters. Some people have equalled it to the Baigaar (bonded labour) of yester years. "It (the economic formula) hits hard at the integrity of the unemployed youth", said a teacher. There is no denying the fact that Rana happens to be the political advisor of the chief Minister. But the package announced two years ago has political ramifications. As such Rana cannot escape responsibility for `misleading' the Chief Minister to dish out doles to the unemployed youth in the name of employment. Rana resolve to promote sports reminds one of an anecdote. A social worker wanted to help the orphans. He would give some money to a widow to feed the orphan. He came across a `wise person' and advised him to spend the amount on orphan's education. He agreed. The stipend to the widow was stopped. A few days later, he saw the orphan begging outside a temple. He realized his mistake. Rana is doing exactly the same. The youth need employment. Games are important but not that important. Sports men will prosper only when they are assured a job. |
