AIU's 27thNorth Zone Inter University Festival-VIRSA inaugurated at Lovely Professional University | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jalandhar, Nov 22: Having great magnanimity of Association of Indian Universities, the mammoth 27th North Zone Inter University Festival - "VIRSA" was inaugurated, today, by the Chief Managing Director (CMD) KR Kamath of Punjab National Bank, as chief-guest, at Lovely Professional University. Being organized for the first time in the history of myth logically and historically important Jalandhar, the lighting of the lamp by CMD Kamath, while declaring the customary inauguration of the Festival, added luster to the festival. On this historic moment of great pride, he was accompanied by the Deputy Secretary, Youth Affairs (AIU), Sampson David; the Chancellor of the University, Ashok Mittal, chairman of the cultural committee , Pro- Chancellor, MS Rashmi Mittal; and, Vice Chancellor Of LPU, Rameshwar Kanwar. The great celebration saw the beginning of the day with a huge colourful procession comprised of all the contingents from 30 participating Universities from 10 states of the Zone, which proceeded on the mapped main roads of the campus to bewitch all the onlookers alike. The AIU Festival will be running for next 4 days, till 26th of November. During this students will compete in more than 23 different events. Speaking on the occasion, the Chancellor of LPU, Ashok Mittal informed: "It is indeed a very big day for us. The opening ceremony has also specially incorporated other ceremonial features like inauguration of the University Students Centre, launch of PNB-LPU co-debit card and the release of university students' music album. These all allied inaugurations have been endeavoured as the vivacious elements in a seamless fusion for paying a venerated tribute to the Festival." He also forwarded his best wishes to all the participants. amid welcoming celebrations, the chief guest of the day, CMD Kamath inspired all the participants to come out with flying colours. Addressing them, he said: "Today, I am very excited to sail over the sea of vibrant youth. I, too, extend my boosting invitation to all the participants to show their potentialities on such a colourful dais, with an aim to excel." Present along with him, Mr Sampson David explained about the values of the youth Festival to the students: "Such Festivals promote, essentially, key values like teamwork, understanding, personality development and creativity. In putting up the many performances, here, students are encouraged to be creative in conceptualizing their performances, and work together to achieve artistic vision." On this occasion, an audience and spectators gallery of about 25,000 students, including around 1,400 participants and officials from the 10 participating states of the country, invited guests, mentors and others witnessed the celebrations, under great enthusiasm and applaud. The inauguration saw competition for scheduled Classical Instrumental Percussion. It also featured special non-competitive performances by about 100 students from LPU. Highlights included performances of cultural heritage importance like Mizo Dance, Giddha, Bhangra and Kathak Dance.
