SSI Association urges Omar to roll back new power tariffs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 22: A meeting of the Small Scale Industries Association, Digiana was held under the chairmanship of its president Jitendra Aul to discuss the issue of increase in the power tariff by the state government. During the meeting the members of the association unanimously took the decision to apprise the state government that 90 per cent of the total industries in J&K are micro and Small Scale Industries set by the locals. The members expressed serious concern over the new power tariff slabs and noted that the increase of power tariff by the Power development department is a slow poisoning for the industrial units which are already facing many hardships to survive. The members of the SSI Association said the PDD has decided to hike power tariff to cover up their own failure to check T&D (theft) losses. The members said the PDD want to penalize the honest and efficient power consumer. During the meeting the members of the association under the leadership of Jitendra Aul urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene in the matter and immediately order the roll back of unwarranted increase of electricity tariff to save the small scale industries. It was also decided to highlight the issue in front of higher authorities regarding frequent breakdown of power to Industrial estate, Digiana and to put forward the long pending demand for the construction of 10 MW receiving station for the oldest and the first Industrial estate of J&K. To sort out the issue of uninterrupted power supply the members demanded that PDD should be directed to supply the power for at least 22 hours like the other Industrial estates of Jammu and Kashmir.
