Hoteliers/traders condemn delay in implementation of Patnitop Dev plan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 22: Traders, hoteliers, transporters and all those connected with tourism continue to be critical of the state Government for delaying implementing various development plans for the scenic Panitop tourist resort in Jammu. Highlighting their plea the hoteliers/traders referred to the rope-way project that still is in doll-drums and has been hanging since 2007. “A year ago the state Government had decided to submit the rope-way project report to the union Ministry for environment for clearance, they added They alleged the state authorities have not taken up the issue with the centre which has been the reason for inordinate delay in the implementation of the project which provides for a passenger aerial rope-way and associated facilities at Patnitop and its adjoining villages including Kud,Sangote-Karla. Experts are of the opinion that once the ropeway project was commissioned Patnitop would be the most frequented resort by the tourists round the year. Development of various tourist circuits in the Jammu region too was being delayed for reasons best known to the Government, hoteliers lamented. Experts said if Patnitop and its adjoining belts were developed properly the tourist resort could beat Gulmarg in Kashmir. Patnitop which is engulfed within thickly wooded forests is a house of beautiful picnic spots, peaceful walks and breathtaking views of the mountain-scape of the Chenab basin. Despite the due neglect the place is the best tourist spot of Jammu and offers natural charm, climate, pine forests and lush green cover. This famous hill resort is perched on a beautiful plateau, at an altitude of 2024 metres across which the Jammu-Srinagar Highway passes. The area can be most favourite spot for trekkers besides for those keen to enjoy winter sports.
