| NC's political 'duality' in two regions 'Opportunism' working to its disadvantage | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: Call it political expediency or politics of opportunism ruling National Conference has been doing it very deftly while nourishing their constituencies in different regions of the state. Even though NC is one party but it has never maintained coherence and semblance in terms of echoing issues in unequivocal voices or tones in different regions of the J&K state. It is too known a fact that political issues which are core to its ideology and thought sound hardcore in Kashmir and get softened and diluted when these reach Jammu. The party changes the tone and tenor and political contours of an issue when it takes that up in the national capital.
This policy that has proved advantageous for the leadership over the years and is being followed by the entire hierarchy in letter and spirit for decades and even now when the entire political discourse of the state has changed with renewed issues, NC leadership has maintained the tempo of following different issues in three regions or on one issue changing the political 'colour' as per the requirement . In other words it rakes up issues in wavering wavelengths at different places as that policy suits its political constituencies at these places.
For instance the meaning and explanation of issues like the current one AFSPA revocation gets diluted when it reaches Jammu while it is being trumpeted to the hilt in Kashmir. While the NC leadership swears by this and doesn't feel tired to blow it up beyond the lung power in Kashmir, it is a non issue (for apparent reasons ) in Jammu so much so that it doesn't find a scope with Jammu leadership to even utter it , not to speak of raking it up. For obvious reasons during its rally two days back the Jammu based leaders did not make a whimper about it.
One cannot forget the controversy erupted last year when the Chief Minister almost shook the entire country by his sudden statement in the Assembly asserting Accession of J&K with India was temporary and incomplete. However, here in Jammu there was no mention whether outside or inside the Assembly, either by the MLAs and second line leadership or the High Command. One understands that the Jammu leadership does neither have their own perception of the issues their party rakes up nor do dare touch upon these for they know such issues are all meant to consolidate and nourish the Kashmir constituency. Even the main mantra and political weapon of the NC Autonomy has different connotations in Kashmir and Jammu and ironically Jammu based leaders have failed to explain the masses here what it actually means or implies to them.
But one wonders the approach of the MLAs of NC which is dual and whatever energy they utilize in nourishing their own constituencies for ensuring their existence and survival is based only on so called development, equitable development of all the regions, achievements on various fronts etc etc. For the innocent , gullible masses is not this politics of deceit and duality …..? If the results of last Assembly elections are any indicator, it is indeed working to its disadvantage. High time for Jammu leadership to realize it. |
