Sham for improving healthcare facilities in remote areas of Kathua | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, NOVEMBER 23 – In order to improve the health scenario in the far-flung areas of district Kathua, Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today convened a meeting of officers in District Hospital, here today. The Minister tool detailed review of the health facilities in the district and stressed upon the doctors to step up their efforts to improve things on ground. He emphasized the need for laying focus on Basohli, Bani, Billawar and other remote areas of the district. He directed the Director Health and CMO to enhance field visits to identify the gaps and to take appropriate steps to fill these. He also stressed on strengthening the monitoring mechanism to make every one accountable in the department. With regard vacant posts in the district, the Minister called for immediate filling up of posts in different institutions. In the meantime, he directed for rationalization of staff for smooth functioning of all the institutions, he asserted. The Minister asked for strict adherence to referral system, adding that only serious cases needed to be referred to city hospitals with reasons for each case. He also called for strict implementation of all flagship programmes of Government of India so that benefits of these schemes percolate down to the needy at the grass root level Regarding sale of spurious drugs in the market, the Minister directed the officers of Drugs and Food Control Organization to strengthen its network in the high risk areas and conduct frequent raids on such outlets. He asked for launching a vigorous awareness campaign to educate the people about the drug addiction and its bad affect on the health. He also sought support of the society to deal with this sensitive issue.
