Gujjars ask President of India to listen their plight | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 23:Ahead of the scheduled visit of President of India to Jammu, the Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Mahasabha today appealed Pratibha Devi Singh Patil to intervene and restore constitutional safeguards to Tribal and Nomadic communities of Jammu and Kashmir as they are facing strong discrimination in every sphere of life. Addressing a joint press conference here today, Ch. Allah Din Khatana All India National Secretary of Mahasaba and Ch Eshfaq ur Rehman Poswal State President of the organisation exhorted to provide identical rights to tribal Gujjars and Bakerwals of Jammu and Kashmir as are being made available to other Scheduled Tribe Communities of India. Both leaders were accompanied by executive body members includes Shabir (Sarpanch) Poonch, Ch Tariq Manzoor (Sarpanch, Mandi Poonch) Ch Faiz Mohamd Sarpanch Yarikha Noorabad Kulgam, Ch Munshi Khan, Farooq Ahmed of Rajouri, Esa Numberdar of Doda, Ch Sadiq Kalis Reasi State Secretary and Ch.Sallah Mohammad Kohli. They said that the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir have been discriminated politically, socially, economically by the successive Governments since 1947. Quoting example of discrimination Ch Allah Din told reporters that Gujjars and Bakerwals were declared ST in 1991 but till date no political reservation were granted to them and on the other hand their counterparts -the SC communities are enjoying it in the State 60s.He demanded the intervention of President of India over the Political empowerment of Gujjars and Bakerwals in the State. Ch Eshfaq ur Rehman Poswal accused the Government for neglecting Gujjars and Bakerwals by diverting funds under SCA to TSP for non ST scheme. He alleged that J&K Government is not serious to develop suppressed communities. He said that there is crores of rupees are still unspent under TSP scheme. He appealed President to intervene in creation of Tribal Ministry in J&K so as the speedy development of Tribal people of State can be possible and planning commission direction on separate plan for SC/ST could be implemented in J&K. The speakers including Allah Din impressed upon the government to empower Panchayat by incorporating 73/74 amendment in Panchayat Act. They demanded special recruitment drive for Gujjar Bakerwal youth in state and central government jobs.
