Punjabi dept, JU organises workshop to prepare PLSI | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 23:The Bhasha Research and Publication Centre, Baroda in collaboration with Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu (JU) organized three days workshop for the preparation and finalization of the entries for the People's Linguistic Survey of India (PLSI). While inaugurating the workshop, Prof. Ganesh Devy of the Bhasha Research and Publication Centre said that the survey will include more then three hundred major and minor languages of India. He stressed the need for imparting early school education through the mother tongues. The survey will be published in 25 volumes. Prof. Omkar N Koul, Former Director of the CIIL, Govt. of India said that the present workshop will finalize the entries of the languages of the state of Jammu & Kashmir including Kashmiri, Dogri, Gojri, Poonchi, Bhaderwahi, Kishtwari, Pogli, Siraji, Shina, Ladakhi, Burushaski, Sheikh Gal etc. Dr. Updesh Kour, Head, Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu highlighted the importance of this project and regional languages of J&K State and she also said that it is important to study the regional languages of J&K State in departments of University of Jammu. Prof Neelam Saraf in her presidential address commended the work for the preparation of people's Linguistic Survey of India and said the project will make a great contribution to the development of all languages of India. Proceedings were conducted by Dr Baljeet Kour while Dr Baljinder Singh Nasrali presented the vote of thanks. .
