20 injured in train accident | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 23: At least 20 people were injured on Wednesday as the engine and one coach of the Qazigund-Srinagar-Baramulla train was derailed at Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, this was the first train accident in the state after railway service was launched in 2008.
The train derailed at Sadoora area after it left Qazikund station on Wednesday morning.
The injured passengers were admitted in different hospitals.
Meanwhile, railway authorities have ruled out possibilities of sabotage behind the accident.
The train service between Qazigund and Baramulla links south and northern part of the valley.
This was the third train accident that took place in the country since Tuesday. Two accidents took place on Wednesday itself.
On Wednesday morning, at least seven people were wounded when a goods train collided with the Samaleswari Express following a signal confusion at the Jharsuguda station in Orissa.
Earlier, at least seven people, including two children, were charred to death and several, including four Australians, were injured when two coaches of the Doon Express caught fire in the wee hours of Tuesday near Giridih district in Jharkhand.
Fire broke out in two AC 3-tier coaches of 13009 Up Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express, which left Howrah at 20.35 hrs. on Monday evening, at about 2.35 hrs. on Tuesday, between Nimia Ghat and Pareshnath stations near Gomoh of East Central Railway’s Dhanbad division.
The position of the coaches was 8th and 9th from train engine. The train was having a total of 19 coaches.
