Kamaal may bring off a coup against Omar | Dynasty In Turmoil | | Neha Jammu, Nov 23: Abdullah dynasty is in turmoil. The issue is power. It is too well-known that the Abdullahs can go to any extent to capture power and retain control over it. It has consistently compromised what it calls its core ideology (autonomy) for the sake of power. No need to comment on what Sheikh Abdullah did to enjoy the loaves and fishes office in 1974-1975, and even before August 1953. No need to comment on what Farooq Abdullah did from time to time to enjoy the state power and what he is doing these days for the same purpose. No need to comment on the U-turns Omar Abdullah has been taking everyday to remain in power. The demoted, humiliated and stung by what he called his disgraceful and unceremonious removal from the posts of additional general secretary and chief spokesperson" Omar Abdullah's father's brother Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal has succinctly put things in perspective. Again, no need to elucidate what Kamaal said about his brother and nephew. Every thing is in public domain. Kamaal has just started his expose-Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah-campaign and he will certainly intensify it to avenge his humiliation. Kamaal on Tuesday made his intentions and desires public. He didn't mince words. He was angry, candid, unsparing and in a threatening mode. He made it quite clear that he wanted to be part of the Omar Abdullah-led ministry, but failed because certain elements hatched a "conspiracy" against him so that he could be kept out of it. He has not forgotten it. Nor has he forgiven the conspirators. It is not difficult to identify the conspirators. He did feel rehabilitated to an extent when he was appointed additional general secretary and chief spokesperson of the party some two six weeks ago. He used the opportunity provided to him by his brother (for whatever reason) to consolidate his position in the party and expand his support-base by taking recourse to a radical line - line similar to that of separatists'. He organized and addressed a number of party conventions in the Valley and made concerted efforts to become darling of the people, something not digested by those who, he believes, felt threatened because of his fast growing popularity. He was angry because he could not find berth in the Omar Abdullah-led ministry. He has turned furious/rebel after his removal from the positions he held for a few weeks. He is not the only one who has turned against his brother and nephew. There are many in the party and outside it, including his sister and his sister's son, who have no love lost for the NC president and the Chief Minister. There are hostile elements even within the ministry that Omar Abdullah leads. Kamaal could bring on one platform all those who do not see eye to eye with Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah for reasons personal and ideological. In fact, he would work hard to create an environment that could culminate in the fall of Omar Abdullah. To be more precise, he may bring off a coup against the two Abdullahs. It would not be inappropriate if someone says that the Abdullah dynasty is in turmoil and Omar Abdullah, in particular, in deep trouble. |
