What is Sajjad Lone up to?
11/24/2011 12:15:04 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 23: Sajjad Lone is constructing a huge commercial complex at Sanat Nagar. But this is not the only activity he is involved in right now. According to people close to him, he is politically very active. But what is he up to?
Significantly Sajad Lone is attracting people from the ruling National Conference (NC). On September 19, he received a delegation of NC workers from Zadibal constituency. The delegation headed by Mohammad Ashraf Dar along with 126 workers and activists interacted with Lone for two hours. They apprised the Chairman of the problems they face in Srinagar and the 'exploitation' they face at the hands of the "traditional twin ruling families".
An `encouraged' Lone felt inspired by the interest shown by people for People's Conference in Srinagar and at the steady stream of new entrants into the party. This was followed by a district level meeting while a PC leader said the party had enough Panches and Sarpanches in North Kashmir. "Now we want to do well in the forthcoming municipal elections in Srinagar", he said.
Lone himself made no bones about his intentions. He reiterated his party's commitment to herald Srinagar into a process of change and politics of dignity and self-respect. Lone said it is his utmost desire to restore the centrality of Srinagar in being a source of inspiration and glory for the entire state of Jammu & Kashmir.
The expansion of PC in areas where its founder Late Abdul Ghani Lone had microscopic presence has generated much interest in political circles. Some link it to the beginning of the formation of much talked about `Third Front'.
Lone's `adventures' in summer capital has evoked a reaction from the separatist camp. "Attracting a few people from Srinagar is totally insignificant. BJP and Shiv Sena have people in the summer capital. Sajjad will have to go a long way to `conquer' Srinagar", said a Hurriyat activist.
Lone contested parliamentary elections unsuccessfully from Baramulla constituency notwithstanding severe criticism from various quarters.
