NC worker's mysterious death contentious but what about murders, suicides due to oppressive tactics of state govt? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 23: Mysterious death of National Conference (NC) worker Haji Mohammed Yousuf allegedly at the residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah may have become most contentious issue but deaths or what can be called murder due to oppressive tactics of state government are nothing new. Since Late Haji Yousuf was an influential NC worker and breathed his last under suspicious circumstances, his death became a national issue. There are many others who die due to oppressive tactics of state government but none bothers to raise a voice in their favour. From right to left, people from all walks of life do console the person being traumatized by the might of state. When the traumatized person dies either due to cardiac arrest or suicide, people join his funeral procession and stay with the bereaved family till the last rites are done. Paid obituary in local dailies is the last place where that traumatized person is last seen. Those who have faced the iron hands of know that government has many ways of frustrating an individual and killing him. Haji Yousuf had taken money in crores and died, according to Chief Minister due to cardiac arrest. But there are people, who become targets of state government and are frustrated to the hilt, leading in most cases to individuals committing suicide either within the four walls of their home or somewhere outside. Government uses its official hands to terrorize an individual. His land is grabbed. His business establishments targeted. His mobile is not only tapped but also put under surveillance. Intelligence wings are asked to dig deep and find out even flimsy complaint against the concerned individual. Entire official machinery is put to work. His bank accounts are checked; details are sought about property of the man under fire and then begins, official harassment. A word is sent from top to bottom to delay files of the person to be harassed. The man seeks reasons for delay and he is told in clear terms that he cannot be explained the same. He is made to move from one table to the other. He pleads innocence wherever he goes but is not heard at all. Officers working at various levels are told not to entertain the concerned person and ensure, he is humiliated in the best possible way. His employees are picked up over flimsy charges and when it comes to their release, same is delayed for unknown reasons. This all takes the person, whether he is a businessman, officer or a trader to the heart specialist or even at times to the neurologist. The person is advised against taking things to his heart. He is told that if he would not stop taking things to his heart, there are all possibilities of the man suffering a massive heart-attack. The man heeds to advice but then due to continued oppression, a day comes, when the concerned person becomes part of the obituary column of the leading dailies. At times, police issues a press note stating that an influential businessman was found hanging in his office or that he shot himself dead. The death becomes hottest issue across the city and after a few days, all is forgotten. Newspapers also write about the dearth for a while and then forget the same. |
