President arrives on 3-Day Visit to Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 24: President Pratibha Patil arrived this evening in the winter capital on a three-day to the state. She was received at the Jammu Airport by Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his other colleagues and given a rousing reception. During her stay, the President will address students at the convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, which is her main engagement in the schedule of visit to state. She was accompanied by Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman ICCR. Security has been beefed up in the city and venues where she is scheduled to visit have been sanitised and closed before she arrived today. Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services and Sports, R.S. Chib (Designated as Minister in waiting with the President during her visit to J&K), Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Director General Police, Kuldeep Khoda and other senior civil and police officers received her at the airport. Patil will address students at the convocation ceremony of the university at Katra tomorrow. She is scheduled to visit the ancient Raghunath temple complex and inaugurate the meditation and spiritual centre set up by Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board. "As many as 672 degree certificates and 19 medals would be given away at the convocation to be chaired by the President tomorrow," SMVD University Media department in-charge Vandhana Sharma said. At another function in the evening, Patil will give away Dogra Ratan Awards to some eminent persons for their contribution towards promotion of Dogri language, culture and history. |
