Kashmir centric JKCA leaves cricketers in lurch | NC patron ignorant | | Baboo Kirti JAMMU, Nov 24: Notwithstanding the tall claims made by the administrators of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) that they burn midnight oil in promoting cricket in nooks and corners of the state, the Kashmir centric JKCA has left the state cricketers in the lurch, through such decisions which have been taken sans the application of mind rather with lack of wisdom. Firstly, out of the three Ranji Trophy 4-day matches allotted to JKCA by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the biased Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association hosted two of them in the Valley, which simply was against cricketing spirit, sanctity of the game and against the cricketers in particular, because it is an admitted fact that playing in Valley in this season of the year serves as a stumbling-block for the players as they hardly get any opportunity for exhibiting their talent in inclement weather conditions as the Valley remains engulfed with heavy clouds and rain during winter season. Despite this fact, the administrators of Kashmir centric cricket association through its customary decision held two matches in Srinagar, probably for regional interests and the result was evident. As per Valley's custom both the matches were badly hit by inclement weather and the players were debarred from the golden opportunity of performing at their home. "It is not for the first time that the weather played spoilsport during the matches in Valley. For that matter, I am at my wits-end to understand as to why the administrators of JKCA prefer to hold the allotted matches in that region, forgetting the fact that this region possessed superb climatic conditions to hold the matches in a proper way, thus making cricketers to suffer," said a cricket coach while expressing anonymity. It is pertinent to mention here that in the two Ranji matches played at Srinagar, only two and a half day's game was possible, out of eight days, affecting the players badly. No-doubt, these drawn matches fetched four points to J&K, to the satisfaction of the cricket administrators. Secondly, without the application of wits, the administrators of the association held coaching camps in Srinagar rather than holding them in Jammu, which would have been more fruitful as for as the technical aspect of the game is concerned, as the conditions outside J&K, where most of the matches are to be played, are similar to those in Jammu and not in Kashmir. For that matter, the experts believe that holding coaching camps in Srinagar in winter season adversely affect the performance of the players when playing outside the state. J&K Ranji trophy team's performance in rain-hit two matches did not set 'Thames on Fire' as the players faced utmost difficulty in tackling with the conditions away from Srinagar. The team's huge defeat against young and inexperienced Goa was the result of the same. "Our inexperienced team never expected such a big win over J&K at their home," said Goa team coach after his team's victory at Jammu a few days back. Now, the sorry state of affairs is that Dr Farooq Abdullah, the President of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association is either least bothered about this whole scenario or ignorant about the entire proceedings, which raises many questions. Is Mr President busy in his political affairs and has no time for cricket association to set it right, or he is deliberately kept away from the affairs of the association? Are the office bearers misleading him to reign the association? Or, it is his connivance? All these questions need to be answered. Otherwise, Dr Abdullah should give this responsibility to anyone else, who can give it ample time and save it from further drowning. |
