LA Panel peeved over non-implementation of road safety measures | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, NOVEMBER 25–House Committee of Legislative Assembly constituted to look into the causes of frequent road mishaps, has expressed serious concern over the non-implementation of its directions, which the panel had given during a series of meetings it had with the District Administration in Chenab valley districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban. The Committee, which met here today with MLA Kulgam, Mr M.Y. Tarigami in chair observed that spurt in road mishaps in these areas is primarily due to over-loading, lack of crash barriers and rash driving resorted to by the un-trained drivers. It was given out that police, traffic and civil administration have to forge synergy to control this menace. The Committee said putting in place its short term measures calls for priority attention and strict adherence as it has neither any big financial implication nor special planning needed. The Committee observed that nothing could compensate human life, adding government was dutybound to promote safety and security of its citizens on priority. A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of departed souls, who lost their lives in recent tragic road mishaps on Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway. Legislators, Mr Naresh Kumar Gupta and Mr Ashok Kumar, besides other senior officers of Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
