Winter capital witness's horrible traffic jam, turns into real nightmare for drivers on President Pratibha Patil's visit | | | Bharat Bhushan Jammu, Nov 25: "Time is money," a popular phrase says ---- and in the winter capital city here, the time spent in traffic jams increases every day. Today, however, proved to be the worst on the city roads. On the eve of President Pratibha Patil's visit, the city and its peripheries witnessed a horrible traffic jam. The city could virtually be termed as a place of traffic jams, with the long queues of vehicles extending from Satwari Chowk to Jewel, from B C Road to Janipura, on the Jammu university road and on the interior roads. The holy Katra town, where Patil addressed SMVDU convocation, also witnessed the worst ever traffic jam. Poor planning of traffic police department to effectively manage traffic on Patil's visit became a real headache for every driver of the city. Today's jam, the longest and the worst in the past few years, got on the nerves of the people, with almost everyone assailing traffic police for its poor road show. No planning was made by the ubiquitous traffic police cops to divert traffic to alertnate routes which led to a traffic mess. While some waited for hours for the roads to clear, others, who had a choice, parked their vehicles by the roadsides, and in the lanes and bylanes, and left for their destinations on foot. The roads were so crammed that there was no space left even for the two-wheelers. To ensure that anti-national elements did not mix up with people to create trouble on the Patil's visit, no one was allowed to enter the city limits. While some cops patrolled the empty city roads, others took positions at the main crossings and atop the high buildings. |
