Central leadership 'sacrificed' the group for own interests….? | Disqualification of BJP MLAs Unanswered question: 'who is the real culprit'…? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 25: The state unit of BJP managed to increase the graph of its representatives in the Assembly from mere one in 2002 elections to double digit 11 in 2008. How this 'meteoric' rise became possible is a different story. The fact as on date remains that this has been shattered in one 'stroke' of decision by the national leadership, reducing the numbers drastically to just four as party members in the House. The decision of disqualification of its 6 members though belatedly for cross voting charges is being seen as the Central leadership having done it for its own interests rather than 'punishing' the lot. The larger question, moreover continues to haunt the party : who is the real culprit…..And how the leadership determined and on what basis did they isolate the seven members? While the dust is now beginning to settle down the whole controversy of party members having voted against their own candidate , this question may eventually die down in the layers of dust and perhaps never get answered by the BJP leadership. But the crude reality remains that party has lost hard earned numbers and a comparatively thick presence in the House which mattered a lot in reflecting nationalistic viewpoint besides highlighting Jammu centric issues in loud voice inside the House. Even though the national leadership took this step quite late and only in order to show that it acts and acts tough against political corruption and corruption in general, a an issue which it is fighting to the hilt against UPA government at centre, the political observers see it only as 'sacrificing' the group, as many as 7 MLAs in J&K for its own interests at the national level. The group of 7 first facing suspension and lately the disqualification as members may fight their own battle legally and contest this move but what central leadership has done is being viewed by all as making them a 'sacrificial lot' as they , as per the party directives to Speaker would no more be the members of the House. What action Speaker takes over the matter remains to be seen in course of time, but the group at present stands isolated and their supporters demoralized by the action of the leadership. Barring Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, who is a veteran in the field of politics , for almost all in that group, notwithstanding the wave of Amarnath land agitation in party's favour in 2008 polls, it was a hard earned victory with each one of them having put lot of efforts and hard work in nourishing their political constituencies where the electoral turf faced tough competition from the rivals. Now that the central leadership has taken the last call and declared its 'verdict' , the group of 7 legislators have been 'labeled ' as guilty. But this action continues to put question mark on the justice in terms of the criteria they adopted in identifying the members having indulged in cross voting. Speaker's contention also halts at this point that it being a secret voting, what parameters BJP leadership adopted in identifying the members. With the group still maintaining and alleging the truth is beyond what has been brought to fore, when and who is going to unveil the real truth and real culprits is a larger and question the answers of which remain entangled in cobweb of politics. |
