A week long farmer’s training programme concluded

JAMMU , November 26 : Seven days farmer’s training cum demonstration programme was organized by Water Management Research Center, SKUAST-J, Chatha, Jammu with the help of RARS, Rajouri at Dassal village.
In this training programme 48 men farmers and 49 farm women were participated. They were trained in different aspects ranging from water conservation, efficient water utilization, vegetables and crop production, fruit crops, nursery cultivation and mushroom production as entrepreneur for livelihood security.
The lectures were delivered by the expert in respective disciplines such as N K Gupta (Agri. Engineering) Dr A K Singh (Plant Pathology), Dr Susheel Sharma and Anil Bhushan (Veg. Science), Dr A P Singh and Suneel Mishra, Vikas Sharma (Agronomy), Kamlesh Bali (Entomology), Rakesh Sharma (Agriculture Extension) and Dr M H Chesti (Soil Science). The farmers were interested and put the queries from the experts and received valuable suggestions during the training.
Along with training and demonstration activity they were given the inputs free of cost like hand tools for used in agriculture and kitchen gardening, hybrid seeds of chilli, knol-khol, tomato and pea, spwan of dhingari mashroom, poly bags for mashroom production, pen and notebook.
The seeds were given to them as demonstrations to teach them the scientific know how of using improved seeds.
The farmers were trained about the benefits of farming self-help groups, farmers club and their importance in small holder farmers for uplift of livelihood.
Er N K Gupta trained the farmers about judicious use of water in agriculture by water harvesting pond in field using locally collected material and easily available cheap inputs to increase the productivity as well as roof harvesting unit and their utility in horticultural crops and kitchen gardening.
Dr A K Singh trained them about seed treatment and use of bio-fungicides for disease management in different crops they also demonstrated the dhingari mashroom production to farmers. Dr A P Singh and Sunil Mishra suggested to farmers about line sowing and maintain appropriate distance and importance of drainage system.
