TTDC concerned over frequent accidents on Doda roads
11/27/2011 12:07:17 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 26:Tehsil Thathri Development Committee (TTDC) has expressed grave concern over the frequent road accidents on Doda-Kishtwar highway and described the hilly roads as unsafe for travelling.
President TTDC Kuldeep Kumar Rao, General Secretary, Om Raj Bhalla, Vice President Advocate Kanwarjeet Singh Thakur and Secretary, Yog Raj Sharma, have said that the accidents on almost daily basis are taking place in Doda, Thathri & Kishtwar Highway. The road from Pull Doda to Thathri is prone to accidents and it has taken a big toll of Precious lives. The government has so far been a mute spectator and has never taken the matter so seriously, when there is an option to avoid the off and on accidents. It would have been better if the roadfrom Suigwari (Pul-Doda) to Thathri would have been through the villages of Thellala, Bhella, Panthan, Kandote, Hanaja, Jangalwar. It would solve two problems simultaneously one that the people residing in these villages will be benefited by national Highway road connectivity and secondly the often occurring accidents would be reduced to a great extent as the area through which the road would pass is comparatively in plain sector and away from the deep gorges and the river Chenab which has so far consumed so many precious lives that the dead bodies could not be traced till now. The construction and widening of the road through the villages of Thellala, Bhella, Panthan, Kandote, Hanaja, Jangalwar is the best alternative for ensuring accident free travel from Suigwari (Pul-Doda) to Thathri.
It is the responsibility of the state government to see that such major accidents do not occur ever now and then on the road but the government has totally failed to protect the lives of the poor travellers on the Highway near the Chenab River. They said that mere lip sympathy of expressing condolence over the deaths is criminal attitude. They also demanded that a special Traffic control Room should be established at Doda, Thathri & Kishtwar with a special task force to deal with the menace of overloading and illegal driving.
