JAMMU, Nov 26:A book on prevention and control of obesity was released here today by Dr Jitendra Singh, renowned Diabetologist, National Professor and author who was the chief guest at a function organised by VLCC on the occasion of World Obesity Day.
Complementing the sustained efforts of VLCC and its head Vandana Luthra, Dr Jitendra Singh said that VLCC has always been in the forefront of an international campaign against obesity, Diabetes and other metabolic diseases. He said VLCC deserves the credit for combining the virtues of cosmetic looks with sound health.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that there is a virtual epidemic of obesity sweeping the globe and in the context of India, what is most worrisome is a very high prevalence of central or abdominal obesity which has been found to be over 60 per cent in both men and women in and around Jammu. Even if a person is not apparently obese in general, the abdominal obesity in itself acts as a major risk factor, he added.
