BJP to experience 'heat' in winter ahead…? | Prez visit puts brief halt to all political developments | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: The three day visit of President Pratibha Singh Patil which concluded today kept everyone, from political executive to administration busy for the last over one week. It put to halt all kinds political activities and gave some break to the developments within the political parties, be it from the ruling allies NC and Congress or in opposition PDP and BJP in particular. No bickering, statements and no political speculations were heard from any quarter - something that was needed in the continuing spree for quite some days that turned the political climate hot with onset of winter. The latter which saw some 'hot pursuit' in terms of action against its 6 MLAs few days back has suddenly turned silent from top to bottom. While there is a quiet scene completely within the hierarchy of the main party, no one discussing the issue of disqualification or its political fallout, the camp where the MLAs faced this action too is reticent. Surprisingly, there is no word nor any response from any MLAs over what finally party leadership announced. As far as the move of leadership turning into reality is concerned, the Speaker of the Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone too is silent and so far it doesn't appear he has initiated any step in the direction that could suggest keenness or promptness in following what BJP leadership has sought. However, he may do whatever he deems fit under the rules in coming days. The silence in neither of the camp is going to last, is a foregone conclusion. If sources are to be believed, the camp facing disqualification is readying itself for a legal battle ahead in order to contest the decision of the party leadership in getting them disqualified as members of the Assembly. Sources said some of them have already started seeking expert legal opinions as to what move they could follow next since the party leadership has also taken the refuge of the provisions in the constitution of the state. The MLAs will not take the decision hands down and are readying for an exercise that might keep the party leadership on tenterhooks in coming days. While the Speaker has also indicated that he would consult the legal experts and seek the version of the MLAs before announcing his decision, the MLAs too are treading every step cautiously so that they could safeguard their position on the legal and constitutional front, sources said. The issue has well turned mild as of now but political observers are looking at the issue on proverbial lines of lull before the storm. It is all set to gain heat and steam from different quarters that will turn the winter hot for the party in coming days, sources added. |
